Jurassic Park III

IMDB rating: 5.60 Plot: Eight years after the InGen incident, Dr. Alan Grant is happy with his life far from any dinosaurs other than fossilized. Unfortunately, he is extremely short in research money, and therefore accepts the offer of wealthy businessman Paul Kirby: A low flight over isolated Isla Sorna, where InGen's second research site was located, and Dr. Grant can fund his future research for a long time. What Dr. Grant didn't know is that Kirby just needs a dinosaur expert to help him and his wife find their 14-year-old son Eric, who crashed on the island while paragliding. What he did suspect, but never wanted to witness, is that the Velociraptors have evolved into a communicating species (and seemingly all along had the capability to do so), now being smarter than primates. |

Ken Park
|
IMDB rating: 6.00 Plot: Ken Park focuses on several teenagers and their tormented home lives. Shawn seems to be the most conventional. Tate is brimming with psychotic rage; Claude is habitually harassed by his brutish father and coddled, rather uncomfortably, by his enormously pregnant mother. Peaches looks after her devoutly religious father, but yearns for freedom. They're all rather tight, or so they claim. But they spend precious little time together and none of them seems to know much about one another's family lives. This bizarre dichotomy underscores their alienation # the result of suburban ennui, a teenager's inherent sense of melodrama, and the disturbing nature of their home environments. |

Meanwhile, a young woman in the U.S. begins to show signs of stigmata, the wounds of Christ. The priest from the Vatican links up with her and cares for her as she is increasingly afflicted by the stigmata. Her ranting and raving finally begins to make sense to the priest who starts to question what his religion has stood for for the last 1900 years. |

How many people actually feel suicidal due to their physical appearance?
For my entire life, I've felt physically disadvantaged because of my face.
I covered up the pain and stigma by eating disorders, self-mutilation, etc. Essentially, I believe I'm not worth what I was brought up to achieve: a happy, stable life with perhaps a husband from a good family. And when you factor in the myriad teasing and jibes I've faced because of my face, you can imagine that I reached my breaking point. I have tried five times to kill myself.
Therapy and other forms of rehabilitation have barely made an impact. I still cannot go five minutes without wanting to stomp on my face with ice skates.
But, is this mental obsession unique to me? Are there others who feel similar pangs of disgust?
Its wholly shameful since I feel so badly because of my face. Rest assured that I compensate for my shortcomings intellectually and academically...and hopefully professionally if I make it out.
Thank you.
Trust me, I'm rather unattractive. I've been told so by many, many people.
Even people on this site; I debased myself my soliciting opinions of myself on this site...my goodness, that's the pinnacle of self-hate.
But I'm always open to opinions how I can improve.
And I do work out...to an extreme. Exercise bulimia is a real issue for me.

I've been called a she-male all my life: I have no real friends and my family members find me to be a disgrace physically.
Wow, how can you feel so bad about yourself? I don't believe you look so bad...
Life isn't just about your appearance :s I mean, your friends and family really care about you and you just want to end your life because you think you're "ugly"? That just sounds very selfish, sorry.
Try to gain some confidence, seriously.. You can exercise or start a band or take acting lessons... Just do something about it, to be more positive about yourself. Don't think about killing yourself 'cause that ain't the solution...
|EDIT| I just saw your picture and OH MY GOSH!! What are you complaining about? There are million of people who look uglier than you and that are happy with themselves.. Yes, you ain't Jennifer Aniston, but who is?? She spends tons of money on her appearance!! And still she ain't that happy.. I really mean it, there's nothing wrong with your face! Stop caring so much about your face and start living your life.
Hope I could help and take care...

Keep seeing black butterflies whenever their is a death close to the family?!?!?
Ok so I've been with my girlfriend for about 8months and shes really superstitious mainly because her parents are superstitious. Her and her family have all seen ghosts and spirits and such and they believe strongly in their god/s (Buddhism) and feng shui.
Of course at first I didn't believe in any of this in fact I make fun of her, eg scarying her in the dark pretending to be a ghost etc etc
But she was telling me stories about how every time there is a family or close family friend's death there is always a black butterfly in the house that lingers around for a few days. They say that it's the deceased saying goodbye one last time. I didn't believe this until a family friend of theirs passed away and lo and behold a black butterfly passed away, then a couple months later it happened again.
I've heard about Hell butterflies (bleach) but of course that is only an anime.
So does anybody else get these butterflies? and after a family/friends passing? or know of anybody that gets this. What do you think of it?
Ps. they've moved house several times and its not like they live in the jungle, quite metro actually.
Pps and Ive considered this to be an elaborate prank and called her out on it, to which she broke down in tears over the passing of her family friend and told me off for being insensitive.
See, this is what you get for not having an education.

Different religions have diferent beliefs. They are true to their extent and eveyrthing is not what it seems.
Don't be judgeful. I am not a buddhist but even in my religion I always have known many different things that happened.
Maybe since u are with her you can see them. Don't worry about it.

Wow, I have never seen nor heard of a black butterfly but they do indeed exist! Superstition is a person's personal choice/beliefs. Personally, I think they are ridiculous and go against their Buddhist faith, but that's just me. She believes it because she trusts her family. To the mainstream, it isn't practical to think that 'death is looming' when a beautiful black butterfly is near. Are there more of these types of butterflies in the regions they have lived? If so, then they are going to see black butterflies whether a baby is born, a teenager graduates high school, you go through the McDonald's drive-thru or someone passes away. Basically, they are just associating it by choice, it doesn't foretell the future. I think it's kind of humorous. Anyway, the black butterflies are beautiful and I would be delighted if I saw one!

Superstitious beliefs aren't that uncommon even in Americans that have Christian backgrounds.
My Great-Grandmother was Irish and Cherokee, a devout Christian, and superstitious beyond belief. It was what most people call "the mountain folk-lore" beliefs.
It would be interesting to go to the library and check out some books about others culture and see where some of these beliefs began. It might also be something that your girlfriend would like to share with you.
I would definitely apologize for hurting her feelings. You should always treat others with great respect. Do your research and ask questions when she isn't grieving, and things will go much more smoothly.

Yeah, and if I'm really good all year Santa will bring me lots of presents. And the Easter Bunny will bring me lots of candy. And the Tooth Fairy will leave me lots of money when I lose a tooth.
I do not believe in any superstitions.
My family always said "Deaths come in 3's", meaning if one person close to you dies, there will be 2 others to die within a few days. Well guess what? People die every day. So I guess deaths do come in 3's, they also come in 4's, 5's 6's and 7,000's.
I think superstitions are silly. I'm not telling you to disrespect your gf's beliefs. Don't tease her about them. Just ignore them. It's all you can do. People believe allot of crazy stuff in this world.

Has anyone gotten married and then lived with their parents or husband/wife's parents?
If so...how was/is it? I know it will vary for all situations, but just trying to get some ideas. This may end up temporarily happening for me and my fiance.
We currently live with his dad and his girlfriend which is fine and we all get along but looks like we might be here until at least a couple months after the wedding which is not ideal for me...I always pictured us having our own place once married.
So just wanted to get some feedback.
we both have jobs and are paying to live where we are now..just feel like getting an apartment is throwing money away so would rather get a house but need money for the down payment.
It's rough because you have to find that balance between being a married couple and hanging out with his folks, but if you've been doing it so far, I don't think the transition will be that difficult. It's not the ideal situation, of course, but I think that if things are going fine now, they will continue to be so. Just keep working hard to sock that money away for your own place!

Seed of Chucky
|
IMDB rating: 5.10 Plot: The killer doll is back! The all-new film is the fifth in the popular series of Chucky ("Child's Play") horror comedies. Making his directorial debut is the franchise creator and writer of all five films, Don Mancini. The film introduces Glen (voiced by "The Lord of the Rings" star Billy Boyd), the orphan doll offspring of the irrepressible devilish-doll-come-to-life Chucky (again voiced by series star Brad Dourif) and his equally twisted bride Tiffany (again voiced by Jennifer Tilly). When production starts on a movie detailing the urban legend of his parents' lethal exploits, Glen heads for Hollywood where he brings his bloodthirsty parents back from the dead. The family dynamics are far from perfect as Chucky and Tiffany go Hollywood and get rolling on a new spree of murderous mayhem; much to gentle Glen's horror. Chucky can't believe that his child doesn't want to walk in his murdering footsteps, and star-struck Tiffany can't believe that the movie will star her favorite actress, Jennifer Tilly (playing herself), who soon becomes an unwitting hostess to this new family in more ways than one... |

What age should be allowed to watch the childs play films (1, 2, 3, bride of chucky, seed of chucky)?
I see like 9 year olds on youtube, that have all the chucky films and stuff.
At least a teenager. 13+
If possible, avoid all horror movies until maturity. They mess up the mind.

They must be kids who don't easily get scared by homicidal dolls. That said, I must say, where the hell are the parents in this situation? Do they know what kind of ideas and thoughts their children are getting?
I would think at least 16 or 18 would be old enough for the Child's Play serial. Or any other horror movie, for that matter.

Why were there more Union casualties than Confederate casualties in the US civil war?
I was reading statistics on the civil war and apparently over 275,000 union soldiers were injured whilst about 137,500 confederate soldiers were injured, half the number. Taking into account the union army size was much larger, 97% of all firearms were supposedbly in possession of the north and they're industrial output was much greater (more railways etc); why was the injury rate twice as high??
The blame probably lies with a series of inept and incompetent generals on the side of the North. Then even when the North got a good general of the armies, meaning General U.S. Grant, his tactics were such that it encouraged high casualties. His style was basically to force head-on conflict with the South and grind it out to win a war of attrition. He knew the South would lose such a war. But his "meat-grinder" tactics inevitably resulted in high casualties for the North.

- Casualties in the Civil War
At least 618,000 Americans died in the Civil War, and some experts say the toll reached 700,000. The number that is most often quoted is 620,000. At any rate, these casualties exceed the nation's loss in all its other wars, from the Revolution through Vietnam.
The Union armies had from 2,500,000 to 2,750,000 men. Their losses, by the best estimates:
Battle deaths: 110,070
Disease, etc.: 250,152
Total 360,222
The Confederate strength, known less accurately because of missing records, was from 750,000 to 1,250,000. Its estimated losses:
Battle deaths: 94,000
Disease, etc.: 164,000
Total 258,000
The leading authority on casualties of the war, Thomas L. Livermore, admitting the handicap of poor records in some cases, studied 48 of the war's battles and concluded:
Of every 1,000 Federals in battle, 112 were wounded.
Of every 1,000 Confederates, 150 were hit.
Mortality was greater among Confederate wounded, because of inferior medical service. The great battles, in terms of their toll in dead, wounded, and missing is listed on this site:
The Ten Costliest Battles of the Civil War.
Some of the great blood baths of the war came as Grant drove on Richmond in the spring of 1864- Confederate casualties are missing for this campaign, but were enormous. The Federal toll:
The Wilderness, May 5-7: 17,666
Spotsylvania, May 10 and 12: 10,920
Drewry's Bluff, May 12-16 4,160
Cold Harbor, June 1-3: 12,000
Petersburg, June 15-30 16,569
These total 61,315, with rolls of the missing incomplete.
The Appomattox campaign, about ten days of running battles ending April 9, 1865, cost the Union about 11,000 casualties, and ended in the surrender of Lee's remnant of 26,765. Confederate dead and wounded in the meantime were about 6,500.
Lesser battles are famous for their casualties. At Franklin, Tennessee, November 30, 1864, General Hood's Confederates lost over 6,000 of 21,000 effectives -most of them in about two hours. Six Confederate generals died there.
Hood lost about 8,ooo men in his assault before Atlanta, July 22, 1864; Sherman's Union forces lost about 3,800.
The small battle of Wilson's Creek, Missouri, August 10, 1861, was typical of the savagery of much of the war's fighting. The Union force Of 5,400 men lost over 1,200; the Confederates, over 11,000 strong, lost about the same number.
The first battle of Manassas/Bull Run, though famous as the first large engagement, was relatively light in cost: 2,708 for the Union, 1,981 for the Confederates.
The casualty rolls struck home to families and regiments.
The Confederate General, John B. Gordon, cited the case of the Christian family, of Christiansburg, Virginia, which suffered eighteen dead in the war.
The 1st Maine Heavy Artillery, in a charge at Petersburg, Virginia, 18 June, 1864, sustained a "record" loss of the war-635 of its 9oo men within seven minutes.
Another challenger is the 26th North Carolina, which lost 714, of its 800 men at Gettysburg-in numbers and percentage the war's greatest losses. On the first day this regiment lost 584 dead and wounded, and when roll was called the next morning for G Company, one man answered, and he had been knocked unconscious by a shell burst the day before. This roll was called by a sergeant who lay on a stretcher with a severe leg wound.
The 24th Michigan, a gallant Federal regiment which was in front of the North Carolinians on the first day, lost 362 of its 496 men.
More than 3,000 horses were killed at Gettysburg, and one artillery battalion, the 9th Massachusetts, lost 80 of its 88 animals in the Trostle farmyard.
A brigade from Vermont lost 1,645 Of its 2,100 men during a week of fighting in the Wilderness.
The Irish Brigade, Union, had a total muster Of 7,000 during the war, and returned to New York in '65 with 1,000. One company was down to seven men. The 69th New York of this brigade lost 16 of 19 officers, and had 75 per cent casualties among enlisted men.
In the Irish Brigade, Confederate, from Louisiana, Company A dwindled from 90 men to 3 men and an officer in March, '65. Company B went from 100 men to 2.
Experts have pointed out that the famed Light Brigade at Balaklava lost only 36.7 per cent of its men, and that at least 63 Union regiments lost as much as 50 per cent in single battles. At Gettysburg 23 Federal regiments suffered losses of more than half their strength, including the well-known Iron Brigade (886 of 1,538 engaged).
Many terrible casualty tolls were incurred in single engagements, like that of the Polish Regiment of Louisiana at Frayser's Farm during the Seven Days, wher

Two great answers already
Simply put the attacker usually suffers the most causalities.
Plus the non combat death rate will be higher for the larger force.

More soldiers = more risk of injury. The larger army usually suffers more injuries. During the US Civil War even small wound could be fatal, even tripping and falling down a hill.

is it normal to test for syphilis at a prenatal visit?
Dude! Syphilis!? Who gets that anymore? The last guy to die of that was like the dad of Robert the Bruce on Braveheart, right? I realize it can cause serious birth defects but I was under the impression it had gone the way of smallpox and polio...is syphilis making a resurgence or what?
No syphilis is still common.
There was actually and outbreak of syphilis at a school in a district near where I live.
And its normal for them to check for any major std that can cause serious harm to the baby when it is born. Plus syphilis can make a person go crazy, it rots your brain basically.. so I would assume they would want to make sure you didnt have it. lol

1 on the hip and 1 on the way! | Jan 19, 2010
wow, where you getting your facts from? syphilis is an std right up there with all the others, only syphilis can be there and you not know it for a long time and have no symptoms until it gets really bad, its cureable if caught early on, but it wouldnt be a good one to have since it usually has no symptoms with it.... its normal to test in prenatal tests though cause like I said, it has no warning signs that you might have it, they test all sorts or stuff from std's to like hiv just to make sure you dont have it, or if you do so they can treat it and try to protect the baby as much as possible
