A landmark film in many respects, “Dr. No” (1962) introduced Ian Fleming’s 007 to cinema audiences. Despite the author’s initial objections, Sean Connery defined the character of James Bond with his remarkably self-assured performance. Ursula Andress’ iconic beauty and Joseph Wiseman’s restrained villainy were equally memorable. Thanks to the contributions of director Terence Young, location designer Ken Adam, editor Peter Hunt and composer John Barry, the 007 style was immediately established in this Jamaican adventure. Producers Harry Saltzman and Albert R. Broccoli should be applauded for getting the most out of their shrimp budget. “Dr. No” succeeds as an unpretentious gape thriller – minus the gadgetry and gimmicks in later Bond outings. The film’s impact on celebrated culture cannot be underestimated.

My comments apply only to the newly released Blu Ray version.

I will not review the film it’s self since everyone has no doubt seen it at least once.

I have waited 2 years for the Bond films to be released in a HD format, and the waite was worth it.

The report quality of this former film is simply awesome. The color saturation, the “depth” and disagreement are very film-like.

I felt like I was discovering the film for the very first time.

Watching it on my 60”’ note, it looked like I was seeing a heed novel, unusual from the lab, film print in my enjoy living room.

And it gets better, I am told (but havent viewed my copy yet) that Thunderball looks even better.

If you are a Connery James Bond fan, and acquire Blu Ray, this is a no-brainer.

Highest possible recommendation, and Amazon has it for a pleasurable trace.

I had extremely crude expectations for the first Tinker Bell but was very pleasantly surprised. Tranquil, I wasn’t quite definite that this particular “franchise” needed a sequel. So, with trepidation I establish this disc into my player. “Tinker Bell and the Lost Savor” actually blows away its predecessor. Determined, the legend is a tad predictable, but with unbelievable unusual characters (including Blaze the firefly, and the two Trolls at the Troll Gate), returning favorites (Garden fairy Rosetta whose bubbly personality is pure Dolly Parton), and qualified animation, this movie will be a joy to examine for all ages.

The story: Tinker Bell is entrusted with the creation of the scepter for the Autumn Revelry. Her friend Terence offers to aid, but his micro-managing of Tink sets her off, and in her nettle, she accidentally breaks the precious and rare moonstone, threatening the life of everyone in Pixie Hollow. Lashing out at Terence, the friendship between these two fairies is jeopardized, and Tink must get a procedure to fix the moonstone…and the friendship. The rest you’ll have to spy on your own; this synopsis is greatly simplified, but I do not want to give away any spoilers.

On Tink’s wander to repair the moonstone, she is joined by Blaze, a firefly. He is absolutely adorable, and given plenty of spunk and character by the Disney animation team. The animation team deserves a plethora of kudos; on Blu-ray (apt reason to upgrade from DVD!) this movie will engage your breath away; especially the scene in the Fairy Anecdote Theater. The lighting effects are amazing; absolutely splendid. All throughout the movie there are many visual touches that will display that the people unhurried this movie took special care to elevate this many notches above the usual straight-to-video movie. Hidden Mickeys, Skull Rock, and plenty of other details that contain repeated viewings. The Celtic-style music is assist, but I feel it is blended powerful better into the movie than it was in the unusual film. I really can’t say enough edifying things about this movie.

SPECS:

Video: Widescreen, 1.78:1 * Audio: English 5.1 Dolby Digital Surround Sound, French & Spanish; subtitles: English, French & Spanish. While the audio is crystal determined and comely to listen to, there are really no dynamic uses of the surround that seemed memorable to me.

EXTRAS:

Backstage Disney

Tinker Bell Comes to Disney World (8:20) : Both Disneyland in Anaheim & Disney World in Orlando have Pixie Hollow areas, but this featurette focues on the Orlando version which has aesthetic topiaries and 3-dimensional recreations of objects from this movie. With careful attention to colors and characterization from the movie, garden designer Carla Schuman and team discuss how it all came together.

Deleted Scenes (16:00) : Includes intros by Director Klay Hall and Producer Sean Lurie

Alternate Scenes (4:00) : These are elegant considerable manufactured bloopers that are fun to gape, including gaffes, some bodily function jokes, as well as a few other mildly funny/amusing bits.

Bonus Short (4:46) : This is a magical guide to the Autumn plot of Pixie Hollow, led by Terence & Tinker Bell. Qualified to peep, it does appear to be more of an advertisement for [...] than a right short. Even the animation style is a puny static and looks more like a 2-dimensional book illustration with simple movement than an titillating film.

“The Gift of a Friend” music video, performed by Disney Channel’s Demi Lovato

Previews include Dumbo (70th Anniversary Edition on Bluray in Spring 2010), The Princess & The Frog, Tinker Bell & The Grand Fairy Rescue (the next installment!), Blu-ray/High Def Disney movies, Santa Buddies-The Anecdote of Santa Paws (with Christopher Lloyd), Ponyo, G-Force, Beauty & The Beast (Diamond Edition in High Def), and Disney on Ice-Worlds of Fantasy (including Tinker Bell & Friends)

FINAL WORDS: You’d have to be extremely curmudgeonly not to indulge in this film and bask in the high quality of animation and characterization!

My five year stale granddaughter loved the first Tinker Bell movie (Tinker Bell (BD Live) [Blu-ray]) and has been anticipating this one with regular updates to me on unprejudiced how many days serene remained until it would be “available in stores everywhere on DVD and Blu-Ray Disc”. I picked it up early today and we were able to witness it together this afternoon.

Though my enjoyment of the film could not possibly have matched the pleasure I took in watching my granddaughter’s face glow with joy, gasp with dread and dissolve into laughter as SHE watched the film, I’m gratified to admit that I darned well liked it, too.

Tinker Bell and the Lost Love in a capable delight. Moms, dads and grandparents should be entertained legal along with the miniature ones. The account of friendship, arguments, placing blame and taking responsibility is a very wonderful one for the target audience (and the rest of us as well, for that matter) . But above and beyond the record, what really stands out for me in this film is the unbelievable amount of creativity that lies leisurely it. The Imagineers have done a fabulous job “tinkering” with the natural elements of Pixie Hollow to fabricate everything: clothing, tools, everyday items, machines to complete each fairy’s work, etc. It’s so worthy fun to gape what they near up with. My approved touch was the cricket clock.

I also enjoyed getting a chance to go beyond Pixie Hollow and stare a microscopic more of the world surrounding Neverland. I liked seeing more of Terence, got a enormous kick out of the wise owl (there are more scenes with the owl in the extras), loved the calla lily trumpets and found the trolls very laughable.

Extras: Though I’m certain she wasn’t getting all the jokes, the “bloopers” had both my granddaughter and me laughing out loud. I was also gratified to behold some of the attractive drawings from In the Realm of the Never Fairies: Secret World of Pixie Hollow, The (Disney Fairies), which I absolutely loved, ragged in one of the other bonus features, “The Magical Guide to Pixie Hollow”.

I’ve heard that two or three additional Tinker Bell films are planned, with the next being Tinker Bell & The Substantial Fairy Rescue. I can only hope my granddaughter anticipates the coming films with the same enthusiasm she anticipated this one and that I’ll be with her as she views each of them for the first time so that I can witness her face deem their magic as well.

Happily recommended.

Note: Even if purchasers don’t currently have a Blu-ray player, they might want to think purchasing the Blu-ray Combo Pack (Tinker Bell and the Lost Savor (Two Disc + BD Live) [Blu-ray]) rather than this DVD because it includes both the Blu-ray disc AND the DVD. That intention, should they net a Blu-ray player sometime down the road, they would have the Blu-ray version already. (I only paid about $5 more for the combo pack, which I opinion was a pleasant retract.)

All the people that say the status makes no sense, and they didn’t know what was going on, need to read this review. To truly like this movie, you have to be educated on dim and white musicals, poetry, and greek mythology.

First of all I will clarify the origins of the word “Xanadu”.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Xanadu – Magical Musical Edition! Click Here

In 1797 there was a poet named Samuel Coleridge who lived by himself. He was asleep, after taking a dose of Opium and washing it down with alcohol. In his dreams appeared a exquisite woman, (he later called her a muse) reciting a pleasing poem. Alas, a knock at the door from a friend broke him out of his dream, and he rushed to his table to write down what he could remember. The result was a poem titled “Kubla Khan”

In the poem, there is a radiant spot called XANADU, where there is eternal admire and happiness. The word has sense been adopted to mean “heaven”.

The movie is based on this poem. When Kira appears to a bewildered Gene Kelly, and tells him to call his unusual club XANADU, and together they recite the first lines of the poem KUBLA KHAN.

Now the reason Gene Kelly is in this film is because Kira has appeared in his life in the 1940’s. She returns to encourage him out again, to inspire his dying ambitions, by attractive him to initiate another music club. However he will need someone young and hip to support him out. So Kira also inspires Sonny Malone to discontinue his bland painting job and consume his talents towards his dream. Therefore Kira brings the 2 men together.

Xanadu is a remake of a film titled “Down To Earth” starring Rita Hayworth. Rita also appears as a muse to inspire people to follow their dreams.
Gene kelly’s character “Danny McGuire” was actually the name of Gene’s character in the 1944 film “Covergirl”.
If you are well read on Greek Mythology, you will know there are muses who record the arts. They are called for in times of need to encourage inspire an artist’s dying ambitions. Therefore the opening scene where the muses are coming out of the wall serves as a window between their world and ours.
Another beneficial tidbit to know about the film, Andy Gibb was say to be the male star, not Michael Beck. Andy apparently was in ill health at the time and couldn’t be insured by the company.
Xanadu was a film I saw as a 9 year weak child. I had been severely injured and could not toddle. I was hopeless and discouraged. Then one night, Xanadu made its cable debut. I was carried into the living room to peek it (I couldn’t meander) . I had never seen Olivia Newton-John before, and I was mesmerized by the most fabulous woman I had ever seen, dancing and singing through this magical fairy memoir. My life had been hum drum up to that point, and the magic, glitz, animation, and music from this film made me want to earn up. I was so anxious to slip and rollerskate (LOL) that I was up in no time walking around. I will forever like this movie and how a “muse” called Olivia inspired me to live again.

I Care For this movie. Why talk about how poor it is? Because it is VERY poor. It’s so poor it’s wonderful! Whose opinion was it to merge fading musical star Gene Kelly with 80’s pop sensation Olivia Newton John??? Throw in some ELO music and some neon special effects and you’ve got XANADU. Oh, it’s astounding!! Roller skating, off-the-shoulder 80’s dresses, long hair, leg warmers…. This is XANADU. The storyline is negligable. You unbiased wait till they fetch to the next song! The choreography is that Kenny Ortega 80’s stuff. Sight for Matt Latanzi (Olivia’s ex) as a dancer in the background. By the time this movie gets to it’s roller-skating in the round finale, you will be rocking! (The dancers/rollers chant: “Xanadu! Xanadu!” and execute some sort of choreographed hand-jive movements! I want to learn those moves!) Devour it, y’all. Like the song says: “Now that you’re here, now that you’re come … Xanadu!”

Christmas fair isn’t Christmas unless you sight at least one version of A Christmas Carol, and this is by far my approved. George C. Scott gives one of the greatest performances I have ever seen an actor give; he truly becomes Ebenezer Scrooge to the fullest degree possible. Scott can say more with unprejudiced the slightest hint of a facial movement than many actors can say during the course of an entire movie. All of the performers here are advantageous, bringing to life adored characters such as Bob Cratchit, Slight Tim, and Scrooge’s nephew Fred. All four spirits are mighty, none more so than Scrooge’s feeble partner Jacob Marley; having Marley’s jaw fall after untying the burial cloth holding his mouth closed is an valuable aspect of the legend and certainly does perform an impression on the viewer. This is impartial one example of the moviemakers’ faithfulness to Charles Dickens’ fresh story; another would be the inclusion of the two downhearted children, Ignorance and Want, beneath the robes of the Ghost of Christmas Demonstrate.

This timeless memoir works extremely well on its bear, but the unsurpassed acting skills of Scott compose it almost more than trusty. The change wrought in him during the course of the night, as he changes from a man of crass materialism and unkindness to a repentant soul pleading for a chance to change his ways, is powerfully presented and really touches the viewer emotionally. The simple happiness revealed in the lives of Bob Cratchit and others are as heart-warming as the forgotten mistakes and difficulty of a younger Scrooge are agonizing. If there is any heart out there that is not touched by the goodness and courage of Exiguous Tim, I don’t even want to know about it. No matter how many times you notice this movie, it proves itself respectable of bringing a journey to your glimpse, a lump in your throat, and ultimately the very spirit of moral holiday cheer and Christian charity that Dickens intended it to suppose.

I cannot say I have seen every adaptation of A Christmas Carol, but I really cannot possess any other version could exceed the quality and emotional impact of this one. No matter how many times I read the sage or inspect the movie, it remains a source of eternal joy to me. This is more than a movie for me; it is an critical and significant fraction of each and every Christmas holiday season.

George C. Scott makes an outstanding Scrooge in this 1984 TV production of the Christmas classic. The epic is once again told of a miser, melancholy and alone. He shuns Christmas and helping others, only doing things that will increase his personal wealth. But then one fateful Christmas Eve, he’s visited by four spirits who try to reveal him another draw. Will it be enough to redeem him?

Buy,Download, Or Stream A Christmas Carol! Click Here

I appreciate this legend, usually enjoying it in a couple forms over the course of December. This particular film version is my celebrated. Probably helps that I’ve watched it almost every year since it came out. The acting is profitable, especially from Scott. The costumes, scenery, and effects are incredible as well, and they stick very end to the fresh sage. Impartial watching a few minutes, I salvage… in and want to examine the whole thing all over again.

This DVD is the perfect draw to ogle the film. The recount and sound are remarkably determined for an almost 20 year dilapidated made for TV film. Definitely better then my ancient recorded from TV tape. The film is presented in its current ratio – paunchy frame. While it would have been nice to have an extra or two, the quality of the movie makes up for this absence in my idea.

If you’re looking for a film version of this classic tale for the holidays, discover no further. This movie is distinct to become a tradition in your family.

I live with a Vietnam Vet who served in the tedious 1960s with 1st Cav. Medivac. During service he earned two Purple Hearts, the Noted Flying Infamous, and the Air Medal. Since WE WERE SOLDIERS concerns the 1st Cav., Randy wanted to seek it. I reluctantly agreed; I am not partial to war films and I disapprove Mel Gibson, and Randy is very hard on Vietnam War films. He dismisses PLATOON as a Hollywood 8×10 glossy; says APOCALYPSE NOW is an bewitching movie that captures the paranoia, but all the technical details are wrong; and describes DEER HUNTER as honorable in its depiction of the strangeness of coming home but so burly of status holes that he can hardly endure it. And about one and all he says: “It wasn’t like that.”

He was peaceful through the film, and when we left the theatre I asked what he understanding. He said, “They finally got it. That’s what it was like. All the details are lawful. The actors were impartial like the men I knew. They looked like that and they talked like that. And the army wives too, they really were like that, at least every one I ever knew.” The he was peaceful for a long time. At last he said, “You remember the scene where the guy tries to acquire up a burn victim by the legs and all the skin slides off? Something like that happened to me once. It was at a helicopter break. I went to remove him up and all the skin fair slid apt off. It looked fair like that, too. I’ve never told any one about it.”

In most respects WE WERE SOLDIERS is a war movie monotonous and simple. There are several moments when the film relates the war to the politics and social movements that swirled about it, and the arrive destruction of the 1st. Cav.’s 7th Battalion at Ia Drang clearly arises from the top brass’ foolish decision to send the 7th into an clear ambush–but the film is not so grand alive to in what was going on at home or at the army’s top as it is in what was actually occurring on the ground. And in this it is extremely meticulous, detailed, and often horrifically successful. Neither Randy nor I–nor any one in the theatre I could see–was bored by or dismissive of the film. It grabs you and it grabs you hard, and I can easily say that it is one of the finest war movies I have ever seen, far pleasurable to the likes of SAVING PRIVATE RYAN, which seems quite tame in comparison.

Buy,Download, Or Stream We Were Soldiers! Click Here

Perhaps the single most impressive thing about the film is that it never casts its characters in a dauntless light; they are simply soldiers who have been sent to do a job, and they do it bright the risks, and they do it well in spite of the odds. Mel Gibson, although I generally disapprove him as both an actor and a human being, is very, very fine as commanding officer Hal Moore, and he is equaled by Sam Elliot, Greg Kinnear, Chris Klein, and every other actor on the battlefield. The supporting female cast, seen early in the film and in shorter scenes showing the home front as the battle rages, is also particularly lovely, with Julie Moore able to say in view what most actresses could not communicate in five pages of dialogue. The script, direction, cinematography, and special effects are piquant, mercurial, and bear a “you are there” quality that is very great.

Randy did have a criticism. “I don’t judge there would be time for casualty telegrams to actually win home while the battle was going on,” he said. “After all, it only lasted three days.” I myself had a criticism; there were points in the film when I found the expend of a very modernistic, new-agey share of music to be intrusive and out of location. And we both felt that a scene approach the demolish of the movie, when a Vietnamese commander comments on the battle, to be fabulous and faintly absurd. But these are nit-picky quibbles. WE WERE SOLDIERS is a damn splendid movie. I’ll give Randy, who served two tours of duty in Vietnam, the last word: “It may not be ‘the’ Vietnam movie. I don’t deem there could ever be ‘the’ Vietnam movie. But they net everything upright. That’s how it looked and sounded, and that’s what I saw, and this is the best movie about Vietnam I’ve ever seen.”

This is war and it truly is hell. Outnumbered on the field and backed by the politically driven Defense Department of the time, one battalion finds itself outnumbered and fighting for its life in the jungles of Vietnam.

Buy,Download, Or Stream We Were Soldiers! Click Here

A unusual reviewer here mistook what this movie was about. It is NOT about America’s war in Vietnam and all the ideology tedious it. Its about a battle that occurred in the early years of that war between a novel type of specialized fighting unit and a very positive enemy. America wanted to consume the enemy for the first time and this is the battle. The only politics keen here is the decision not to utter a National Emergency thus allowing the Army’s most experienced soldiers to leave at the extinguish of their enlistments, when ironically they were most needed. This movie is about a battalion commander training his unit, getting orders and shipping off to war. It also gives an salubrious gawk at what the wives had to endure during that poor time.

If one wants to inspect at the politics of this war, check out HBO’s Path to War. Path to War shows the speech were LBJ sends this unit, the Air Cav, to Vietnam and the political reasoning leisurely it. It goes through LBJ’s escalation and McNamera’s change of heart on the winnablity of the war. Highly recommend it.

Anyway, in realism this ranks up there with Saving Private Ryan. By reading the book you secure a mighty better occupy of what happened as well as the memoir not told of what happened at LZ Albany. That encounter was even a worse then what happened at LZ X-Ray.

All told this movie gives the feel of how immoral, horrowing and confusing first-hand combat can be. One decision can lead to winning the day, or as the movie shows, getting yourself crop off and most of your men killed. As for accuracy to what occurred, a group of soldiers that were there appeared on The History Channel’s “Hollywood vs History” program and they concurred that it was 75-80% correct. 20 – 25% Hollywood. That’s probably a capable ratio indeed. Oh, and the diminutive American Flag at the raze was right, not Hollywood. And Sam Elliot deserves an Academy Award for his portrait of American Hero Sgt. Major Basil Plumley.

I have to admit, I was ready to abhor this movie. Having been a long-term fan of the Harry Potter books, a less-than-faithful adaptation could have unfavorable it all for me. As it turns out, my fears were fake.

Okay, some viewers will nitpick over discrepencies in characters’ appearances, but all the Indispensable stuff is here. The relationships between the characters are spot-on. The film also successfully convinces us that the magical goings-on are section of the protagonists’ everyday lives, whilst at the same time instilling a sense of wonder in the audience. This difficult balance is one of the main reasons the books are so successful.

Some of the child actors are a tiny wooden at times, but generally the all-British cast is valid. The rich characters of Rowling’s books have translated perfectly. Robbie Coltrane IS Hagrid. Emma Watson (Hermione) and Rupert Grint (Ron) have colossal fun delivering most of the film’s best lines. Dan Radcliffe does well in the difficult task of communicating Harry’s thoughts, when the audience is unable to contemplate them written down. Deserved mention, too, for Maggie Smith’s McGonagall, Alan Rickman’s Snape and Tom Felton’s nasty-yet-vulnerable Draco Malfoy.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone! Click Here

The quality of the production is good. The sets and costumes are amazing, and the attention to detail is breathtaking. The effects are pleasant, sure highlights being Harry’s invisibility camouflage, and the Quidditch match (an adrenaline-pumping spectacle suitable up there with anything Star Wars has to offer) .

In between the showpieces, director Chris Columbus remembers to let his audience acquire a breather with quieter moments. Harry staring out of his bedroom window, and he and Ron opening their presents on Christmas morning, are endearingly down-to-earth. And the scenes of Harry in front of the Mirror of Erised brought a hump to my gawk (If you’ve read the book, you’ll know why) .

That’s not to say the movie is without its faults. In an attempt to please purists, ALL the subplots have been included (though pared down a broad deal), when omitting a few entirely may have helped the pacing of the film. The opening half-hour may be difficult to catch for those who are exclusive with the book. A few of the magical artefacts seem rather more mechanical than mystical.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone! Click Here

But these are all itsy-bitsy niggles, really. The bottom line is that 152 minutes cruise by as if it were half an hour. The only wish you have is that it were longer, and there can be no better label of a trustworthy film than that.

Like the director, Chris Columbus, I contain that since the book was so well done, the movie shouldn’t change anything notable. I needn’t go on about the actors, scenery, music, etc. It’s all very well done and extremely moving.

The movie itself gets 5 stars from me.

My review subtracts a star for the second disk which I found extremely frustrating. There is some very nice material included but it’s so difficult to procure while wading through the inconsequential filler material that it almost isn’t worth it.

BTW – if you have a search function on your DVD player (on my remote, it is accessed through the ‘Display’ button) the deleted scene access shroud is #77
