I need your oppinion on if this is a good blog idea. Would people follow me?
I am thinking of making a blog. If you have ever watched the movie Julie and Julia then I want to do the same Julie did with the cookbook and the blog. If you haven't seen it then I want to go through a cookbook (I'm gonna do a dessert cookbook of 278 recipes) and do it all in a certain amount of days. The whole time I'm gonna blog about what I did and how long it took and how difficult it was. Is this a good idea? Would you follow me if you saw my blog? Please any opinion would help a ton! Thanks!

I'm a runner so I will just run anything I eat off

 I saw that film.
I'm not really interested in cooking but I know one who does(specially dessert).
She would definitely follow through your blog. I'm not sure about commenting though. She's a silent observer xD.

If you enjoy cooking and blogging like the character portrayed in the film, then do it for yourself for fun.

What grade would you give this piece of coursework?
In this piece I aim to explore and discuss all aspects of act one in An Inspector Calls. This will then further allow me to focus upon the devices expressed throughout act one and their signifcence to the novel as a whole, and also how effectively the Author delivers his concerns and ideas in a way that also interests and involves the reader.

During the 1930's Priestley became very concerned about the consequences of social inequality in Britain, and in 1942 Priestley and others set up a new political party, the Common Wealth Party which argued for public ownership of land, greater democracy, and a new "morality" in politics. The party merged with the Labour Party in 1945, but Priestley was influential in developing the idea of the Welfare State which began to be put into place at the end of the war. Priestley made many broadcasts on radio in which he tried to promote and persuade people of the virtues of socialism.

Communal responsibility is the most discussed and maybe most important aspect of "An Inspector Calls". Priestley wants to teach us: Do not only look after yourself but also care for others. Arthur Birling in particular is a perfect example of this.

Muslims, do you think this is fair?
A Norwegian newspaper has recently published a few Internet links that lead to the Muhammad cartoons.
As a result, 1000 Muslim taxi drivers had blocked the central roads in Oslo with their cars between 2 am and 4 am.
Next week, the Muslims are planning to block lots of roads throughout Oslo during the rush hours, making it hard for people to go to work and come back home.

Do you think it's fair that such a demonstration, which has not gained permission by the police, blocks the streets and stops traffic for innocent people because of one single newspaper?
@eternal - okay, so an entire city with over half a million in population, has to face these consequences because of the actions of 3-4 people working for a single newspaper?
Is that fair to you?
@Victor W - I never said I agree with the Muhammad cartoons.
All I'm saying is that retaliation like this doesn't help the Muslim's cause and only serves as punishment to innocent people who had nothing to do with the cartoons.
So please stop your embarrassing assumptions about me.

@Zakariah - No, but that does not justify ruining an entire city's transportation. There are other ways of dealing with this besides ruining the day for thousands of people who have nothing to do with the cartoons.

@Zeeshan - I agree with you that Islam should be respected. But the Muslim population should also respect the Norwegian people. Respect is a mutual thing.
It is lack of respect to block the roads for innocent people so they won't make it to their job. Why should the innocent people have to suffer?

join the real world since when do muslims consider whether or not their actions are fair they only care about themselves. The locals should slash the tyres of these taxis
George | Feb 06, 2010

I think it is over reacting as usual, but at least this time it wasn't violent.
Butterfly ???????? | Feb 06, 2010

 theres muslims in oslo?!

and yes fair don't insult religous beliefs and nobody insults the legals system.

edit: yes true, but the message is muslim will not take to your jokes like christians and jews because next thing you know our prophet will be mocked on tv day in and day out.
eternal | Feb 06, 2010

I think it's not fair to the public.

But I think if the Norwegian Government are caring enough to its own people, they can just issue an apology and directed the newspaper to stop making fun on religious sensitivities.

Unless your entire government feel that making fun on other people's sensitivities is much more important than public like you, then you are barking at the wrong tree & surely I feel sorry for a naive Norwegian cirizen like you.
Victor W | Feb 06, 2010

Is it fair for a newspaper to publish links it KNOWS will cause offense.?

Ask yourself how the message of Islam has been preserved without graven images of God or the prophet?

Look how all other faiths have become diluted with idolatry because they don't preserve these things.

There are more important things in life than the rat race.
Zakariah | Feb 06, 2010

In The Name of Allah, The Creator and the Ruler of the Worlds

Think of a situation like this... suppose in a Muslim majority country, the Muslims make a funny picture of Jesus (pbuh) { which they will never do as its disrespectful to the other religion} wouldn't the Christians there rebel?? The Govt isn't supporting them, no one is listening to their voice.. then rn't they forced to rebel like this?? Just think about this..
I believe that the Govt there should take immediate action against the man who made Muhammad (pbuh) 's picture.. They should know that the Islam is the 2nd largest religion of the world and it should be respected!
Enough Said! Hope I helped!
ASalamualikum!
Zeeshan
_______________________________________________

Edit: Yes my friend.. I do agree with u.. but we all know that this is not gonna be banned there... Like I mean yea its wrong blocking roads etc.. but if they don't do that, their still small voice would never be recognized..
Zeeshan | Feb 06, 2010

life's not fair buddy. but to be honest its not fair that they made the cartoons. they're obviously hurt by it. but at the same time its not fair that they're doing that either. But its very rude that the newspaper has those extremely rude cartoons in them.
Zainab | Feb 06, 2010

@Zainab, to say life isn't fair contradicts the status of the one who has given us life, and HE describes himself as Al Adl (The Just).
Abdul-Jabaar | Feb 06, 2010

I don't think it's fair of people who live in a country that values freedom of speech, of the press, and of religion, to suddenly decide that there's too much freedom of religion or that freedom of speech and religion belongs only to them.

Speech, the press, and religion are not free when they are limited.

Until Muslims recognize that the same freedoms that allow them to practice their religion openly in countries without a Muslim majority, to speak about their beliefs, and to publish information about those beliefs also allows other people to mock their (or anyone else's) beliefs, they will constantly be in conflict with the Western societies in which they live.

I am appreciating the irony of them feeling free to protest because they don't like freedom of the press.

Should I watch "Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince"?
I'm a huge fan of the books, but I was disappointed by the other movies, especially the "Order of the Phoenix". The movies aren't bad as such, but I tend to compare them too much to the books. Of course, I should see them a bit more separately I guess...
What do YOU think? Is the "Half Blood Prince" movie definitely better than the others or will I be too disappointed because it leaves out too many important parts of the book?

I don't personally think this film is any better than the others, that's just my opinion.

Now see how easy that was. And it didn't take any thinking - just letting your a*s make the decision for you!
If you can't separate them in your mind, don't bother... because then you'll just go around complaining about how it didn't live up to your standards. Nobody wants that.

Cinematically, it was fantastic. I'm a huge, and I recommend it, but not because it relates closely to the book. Since when do movies have to be exactly like the books to be acceptable? Half of the movie would be boring a heck if we were stuck watching Harry look at Voldemort's past. Only hardcore fans would want that. The movies are just based on the books; the books aren't used as manuscripts for them or anything.
Personally if you have just read HP6 I would wait a couple of weeks for the story to sink in so as not to ruin the film; but i would definitely recommend watching the film, even if its at a later date! I read the third book about a week or so before the film came out and it ruined it a bit for me, so now I think that the third film isn't too good!!!
I hope this helps!!
I think avid readers of the books will always be disappointed by the films. They do leave bits out, the acting isn't exactly fantastic in parts, and it's never going to match the images and characters you've created in your head. However, I find that the films do really manage to create amazing atmospheres, and Half Blood Prince is definitely a good example of that. Go see it. If you accept that it won't be as good as the book and that it's different, you'lll still be able to seperate the two and enjoy them as seperate things.
According to the officers heading the project, too many times the talents and expensive training of the best pilots and soldiers go to waste during times of peace. So they enlist Bauers (Wilson), the most under-achieving average guy they've got, to be the test subject for the initial hibernation experiment. Also participating in the top-secret program is Rita (Rudolph), a prostitute who agreed to take part in exchange for dropping some criminal charges against her, among other things. Of course, the experiment, which was to last only a year, goes under due to the arrest of Officer Collins, who is busted for heading a prostitution ring. Seeing as though he was in charge of the experiment, one of the only ones who knew of its existence, and "due to a lot of top-secret red tape... and the massive scandals and base closure that followed, Joe and Rita were forgotten about.

I'm making a reading list, what books would you recommend for a 15-year-old?
I thoroughly enjoyed "The Perks of Being a Wallflower" by Stephen Chbosky, "Diary" by Chuck Palahniuk, "Lullabies for Little Criminals" by Heather O'Neill, "the five people you meet in heaven" by Mitch Albom, "for one more day" by Mitch Albom, and "The Memory Keeper's Daughter" by Kim Edwards.

So far my list is this:
"Crooked" by Louisa Luna
"Dreamworld" by Jane Goldman
"The Lovely Bones" by Alice Sebold
"Invisible Monsters" by Chuck Palahniuk
"City of Thieves" by David Benioff
"Fight Club" by Chuck Palahniuk

-

What books would you recommend for me? And have you read any of the books that are on my list - were they good?

I'm looking at starting "City of Thieves" for myself =). I've read "The Lovely Bones", I wouldn't say it was bad...just different. And that could definitely be a good thing depending on your tastes. I liked the story anyhow.

Some suggestions...
The "Odd Thomas" series by Dean Koontz is very good if you're into supernatural stuff. It's about a short-order fry cook in California who sees ghosts.
"Catch 22" by Joseph Heller is pretty much my all time favorite book, so I'd definitely recommend that. It's very funny, sometimes in a dark humor way.
"Grendel" by John Gardner, especially if you've read Beowulf. It's told from the monster's point of view, so very thoughtful.
"The Things They Carried" by Tim O'Brien is a must. It uses verisimilitude to make you question what's true and what's made up, and if it really even matters.

Happy reading!
