Plot: Earl and Hank have only one thing in common: they're both L.A.P.D. rejects. One just got kicked out, the other can't even get in. After confronting each other on opposite sides of the law during a traffic stop that escalates out of control, these two luckless individuals end up partnered as lowly security guards. Despite being damned to the lowest rung of the law enforcement ladder, Earl and Hank uncover a sophisticated smuggling operation led by Nash and his band of thugs. Does shutting down Big 3 put our national security at risk?
It's easy to say "let 'em fail", but what will happen to our national security (especially since we are still at war) if we lose our manufacturing capabilities? The auto companies played a crucial role during WWII. If we just let them shut down now, this would have serious consequenses for our national defense. I personally don't think the Big 3 should get any bailout money unless bad management gets the heave-ho and new management and the UAW renegotiate their unsustainable compensation packages. The times, they are a-changin'.

As an auto worker I am appalled at the ignorance and disinformation being displayed in regard to this situation. FYI: in the last UAW-GM contract, the UAW already gave GM the ability to hire new workers at $17 and a number of other concessions. The Japanese companies operating in the US pay wages comparable to our present wages. Their savings is in legacy costs. They are so new in this country that they have no retirees to pay. They also don't have health insurance costs with their Japanese retirees, we are the only industrial nation without some kind of national health care. So their nation's health care system pays retiree health care.

As for vehicles, many Americans are still parroting the old 1970's
refrain that the. Big Three are not building the kind of cars that Americans want. We have rushed dozens of new gas efficient and hybrid vehicles to market. We are almost ready to sell electric cars. And, don't start thinking we have models people want but lousy quality. Toyota set an industry record last year for recalls. Today, US quality rivals the best in the world. The reason the bailout is necessary is because of the credit crunch and the public's reluctance to make major purchases in tough economic times, we are not able to sell the cars we have built. The Japanese automakers are suffering the same as we are.

Now, someone had the nerve to suggest that my wages be cut since anyone can do my job. I am a skilled trades worker with a college degree and I have finished a four year apprenticeship. Unlike "Joe the Plumber", I finished my apprenticeship and have my journeyman's card. If I worked outside the auto industry, in my trade, I would earn more than any $20 an hour.

The American automakers need the bailout to get through these tough economic times that they were in no way responsible for. If the auto industry leaves America, in order to buy a car you will have to give money to someone who may not like us very much.

I say pay the UAW employees a normal wage like everyone else, say $15/hour should be about right for unskilled labor. $20/hour for more skilled personell is ok, but this ridiculous $35/hour for doing something a 12 year old could easily do is insane. Who can stay in business like that?

Actually it does. Until this Country gets its manufacturing base back, we cannot pull out of our financial woes. Should the Big 3 go under, you will see this country spiral into a depression folks, it is just that simple. Yes the UAW has their "claws" into these companies. Until these companies can operate on a level playing field, they will not survive........with or without a bridge loan............LOAN people, LOAN, not a bail out.

Not giving 25 billion dollars to the auto companies is not "letting them fail". They will find a solution by themselves. The majority of the country sees what is being done with the bank bailout money and is against bailing out the auto makers. Don't believe the scare tactics that are being put out there.

Automobile manufacturing is a vital component of our national defense. Only a few generations ago America was shocked into World War 2 by the Japanese bombing of Pearl Harbor. American automakers responded by turning their industrial might toward the defense of our nation. During World War 2 General Motors was a major supplier of US military hardware, supplies and equipment. Putting these resources in the hands of Japanese, Koreans, or Germans makes the United States extremely vulnerable; both during wartime and during peacetime.

Mine is my lady baltimore vanilla cake i make from scratch! And because I am feeling extremely nice today, I will share the perfected Lady Baltimore Cake recipe my family has passed down from many generations:

4 cups sifted all purpose flour
4 tsp baking powder (20 mL total)
1/2 tsp salt or (2.5 mL)
1 cup (8oz) or (2 sticks) unsalted butter not margarine at room temp.
2 cups (16oz) sugar
1 tablespoon vanilla extract (15 mL)
1 1/2 cups low-fat (2% milkfat) milk (12 oz total)
8 large egg whites (remove the yellow part with cholesterol)
1 recipe Orange Foam Frosting

For the filling:
1 cup (8oz) finely chopped dried figs (in the dry fruit section)
1/2 cup finely chopped pitted dates (4oz)
1/2 cup dark raisins (4 oz)
1/4 cup of Orange juice (2oz)

For the frosting:
Orange Sea Foam Frosting:
1 1/4 cups sugar (10 oz total)
1/4 cup cold water (2oz)
3 large egg whites (remove the yellow part with 2 spoons)
1 teaspoon grated orange rind (5 mL)
1 teaspoon vanilla extract (5 mL)
In a midium-size heavy saucepan, stir the sugar and water over high heat until a candy thermometer reaches 240 degrees Farenheit or 1/2 teaspoon dropped in a saucer of cold water forms a soft ball.
Next, In a large bowl, with an electric mixer on high, beat the egg whites until soft peaks form. Slowly add the hot syrup, then the orange rind and vanilla, beating constantly for about 5 minutes or until stiff peaks form. Makes about 2 1/2 cups of frosting.

what do u people think of my little poemy thing, its about a girl i like ?
before u start, im not an emo or anything i was just not doing very much this evening and i remember a ts eliot poem i read a while ago and it got me thinking and i wrote this.

i stand alone, united and clear in my goals,
the past is set, the present is alive, and the future is as bright as the sun.
but then a change, that threatens to bring all of that down,
or complete it.
a beam of light which has always been a part of my universe,

the beam of light, grows ever more beautiful everytime i glance it,

What to do about my ex girlfriend?
my ex girlfriend broke up w/ me around dec 28th sandwiched in between xmas and new years day. we lived together for 3 yrs and two months. i was devestated. she has two kids that arent mine and i have no kids and im 27. i thought we could work things out but i have came to the realization that some things u just cant work out. she told me she wanted to be single again. the problem is this. both of our names are on the lease. if i move out at the end of the month the landlord told me that there would be no penalty which is fine. the situation is she wants us to move out together at the beginning of march. i have been told by family i could move back home and get my life restarted again find a job, go back to school, etc. we never talked about the end game strategy until this past sunday. i wish we wouldve talked about it earlier but thats water under the bridge. she knew this day would come. she's getting $7300 back in refund from her taxes on feb 1st. i have stayed here for a whole month paying the bills on time, feeding the kids, and the normal things in the house until she gets her tax refund back, so in effect i didnt abandon her w/ nothing. her ex is in jail and when he was out of prison he didnt spend any time w/ his kids. her mom lives w/ us and gambles her money away. the whole time we arent together. the whole time she has a profile online that i know of saying she's "looking for casual dating and and to make new friends." what do i do? she's trying to make me feel guilty but i'm the one that has to look for a new job and she doesnt. i'm the one that has to start over and theoretically she doesnt. i need to go home and start looking for a new job right away and not wait and lose a month. what do i do? how do i know this isnt some ploy to just make excuses for me to stay and stay longer until its convenient for her u know. i need guidance. i dont mean to be an *sshole but she broke up w/ me.

If anyone stumbled she was whipped. The city streets had been decorated and the sound of music filled the air. People came out in throngs wearing festive clothes and rejoiced when they saw the procession, preceded as always by the heads of the martyrs. Bearing themselves with dignity and self-respect, the prisoners were paraded through Damascus. Zaynab (a) even cast aside the offerings of food that some of them out of compassion offered them.

The son of an enemy of the Prophet (s) who had waged war with Imam Ali (a) was among the crowds. When he saw Imam Zayn ul-Abidin (a) he jeeringly asked him who was now victorious. In reply the Imam said: "If you wish to find out who has been victorious, do so when it is time for prayer and the Adhan and Iqamat are recited."

In this manner the captives were paraded until the afternoon when they reached the palace of Yazid. There he was seated on his throne and was much pleased when he saw the forty-four bound captives arrive. The head of Husayn was then brought to him on a golden tray. He struck the Imam's teeth with his stick and said: "O Husayn! You have paid the price of your revolt."

When Zaynab (a) and her companions saw this show of arrogance they burst into tears and there were many present who were ashamed. But Yazid carried on gloating over his victory. He said to his subjects: "My ancestors who were killed at Badr have been avenged today. Now it is clear that the Bani Hashim had just staged a play to gain power and there was never any divine revelation."

Zaynab (a) however was not afraid. She drew herself up and boldly said for all to hear:

"Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the worlds and blessings on my grandfather, the Chief of divine prophets."

"O Yazid, Allah says, and his word is true, that: 'Then evil was the end of those who did evil because they rejected the communications of Allah and used to mock them' [30:10]."

You think that you have achieved worldly good, that your affairs have become stabilised and our rule has fallen into your hands. Wait for a while. Do not be so joyful. Have you forgotten Allah's saying: 'The unbelievers should not carry the impression that the time allowed to them by us is good for them. Surely we give them time so that they may increase their evil deeds, and eventually they will be given insulting chastisement' [3:178]."

Oh you yazid sympathizer;
Yazid was so enraged with Zaynab's bold defiance of his authority that he might have ordered her killed had not Abdullah ibn Umar ibn Aas intervened and begged that no notice be taken of her harsh words since she had suffered much grief and hardship and was broken-hearted.

Imam Zayn ul-Abidin [a.s.] would also have suffered death at the hands of Yazid on account of his fearless speech, had not Zaynab [a.s.] saved his life by begging Yazid to slay her also along with the boy. Yazid was moved by her love for the boy and spared his life. But death nevertheless took its toll. Sakina, daughter of Imam Husayn, died in captivity in Damascus at the age of four and was buried there.
