Elvis fans : Do you think that Elvis would have lived longer if…………………?
His mother didnt die when he was so young. Apparently he was really close to his mother and I think that this was the worst thing that happened to him and it just sent him down the drugs road. Then his divorce just made everything worse. I think his mother would have helped him get through everything if she had of been alive

No, I think he would have lived longer if he wasn’t a major junkie. He took enough drugs to kill several elephants.

No. Besides his drug addictions and obesity he had diabetes that he wasn’t being treated for. His mother also had diabetes that wasn’t being treated and it contributed to her death. Elvis died from lack of health care.

Somehow, I knew u were going to ask that. Was Elvis a mama’s boy? Yes, but I don’t think that her death is what drove him over the edge. He was more complicated than that.

I think he’d have lived longer if a certain colonel hadn’t been within money-making distance from him and his mother had insisted he not eat so much and not fill himself with every drug known to man, is what I think.

On the other hand, how long does a man who bedded Ann Margaret need to live, anyway? Everything’s just naturally going to be downhill from there.

Elvis had too many enablers in his life.Reminiscent of the majority of celebrities.
Thius | Nov 16, 2009

sadly no, I don’t think these things would have made much of a difference, but Elvis will live on forever through his beautiful music and the best voice of anyone ever in time…………..

I’m an Elvis fan – liked his music – could be if his Mother had lived he wouldn’t have lived a different life – think that gang he evolved had allot to do with his drug use.
Dave M | Nov 16, 2009

Yes,

I saw an interview done with one of his friends who said that Elvis did everything to please his mother. He said, "If Gladys had not died, Elvis would never have gotten into drugs the way he did because his mother would not have been pleased. If she told him ‘don’t do that’, he stopped. He did everything she said". Those were his exact words.

Every time I see Tony Bennett or Andy Williams still singing, I think……Elvis could still be singing if not for the poor choices he made.

No. It was not his destiny.

Elvis adored his Mother and had so much respect for her. I was
so impressed. He could have lived longer if he’d forsaken those
drugs he took. I got to see him in person in one of his last
concerts. I have always loved his music…….still do. There’s
no one who could ever out-sing him. He truly is the King.

I think he’d probably still be around today if Gladys had lived. He wouldn’t have went through the pain of losing her, Col. Parker wouldn’t have had such a strong (& negative) hold on his life, and most importantly Priscilla would’ve been out of the picture before you could say "auf wiedersehen". She’d have seen right through her. And she thought Natalie Wood was bad! Priscilla would’ve been dead in the water. The divorce is what really done him in, imo. Still, they say only the good die young, and Elvis was the very best! It’s a very good question though=)

I think it might have been different if his mother had been alive. The drug usage might not have started then.
cricketlady | Nov 16, 2009

I believe that Elvis surrounded himself with people that enabled him with the abuse of drugs. I believe that is the worst thing that happened to him. I’m sure stress is a big factor in what leads celebrities to drugs in order to keep them on the go.
dJackie Blued | Nov 16, 2009

No . I don’t think she had anything to do with it. The real villains were his managers and promoters that hooked him on drugs and used him up.
jd | Nov 17, 2009

there is a strong possibility he would have lived longer. She did have an unreal influence over him.
As for his marriage, I don’t think that would have lasted with or without his Mom.
Nora G | Nov 17, 2009

Elvis’ death cannot be attributed to the loss of his mom IMHO. Rather, it was his lifestyle, the situation of being surrounded by ‘users’ [just as MJ] and an inability to place his own salvation first.
sage seeker | Nov 17, 2009

Elvis was on Perscription drugs, and reaching out to his Church to help him. And they did not come to the party.

Doesn’t that tell us something?
ANNIECAT | Nov 17, 2009

Maybe…I personally think drugs were going to play a part in life either way/*

Some can handle success, and some can not.
