Anti Aging Skin Products
The world of anti aging skin products is a vast one; as are some of the claims cosmetic companies will make with regards to their effectiveness. Essentially, no two aging skin products will be the same – although they may be similar in ingredients: As eggs, flour and water can make a pancake; it can also make noodles! So you do need to exercise some careful judgment when it comes to choosing a product.
There are specific ingredients used in many leading anti aging products that possess certain qualities which have been long regarded as effective. Therefore products that incorporate the more recognised ingredients tend to be the preferred choice of the masses – as opposed to products incorporating unknown ingredients without an extensive 'track record'. However, you should recognize that governmental regulatory agencies will require new ingredients to have been researched to some extent.
Therefore, you have a dilemma – go with the proven ingredients to get normal results, or experiment with the 'latest and greatest' for potentially superior results. Just make sure it comes with a money-back guarantee!
When choosing from the huge range of anti aging skin products available, it is always wise to choose one that has some kind of expert research behind it – carried out by recognised professionals. In addition, the word of the people using those products is also a good indicator.
Many anti aging products will incorporate Retinol (pure vitamin A derivative), Vitamin E and Alpha-Hydroxy Acids – more commonly referred to as AHA. A daytime anti aging product would also do well to include a sunscreen to protect the skin from damaging UV rays.
Skin care products containing Vitamin E have certain anti aging qualities – Vitamin E helps to repair damaged skin cells - as well as protect the skin from UV rays. Vitamin E anti aging products have been around for a long time and have proven to produce positive results in many cases, although it is a somewhat preventative measure - as opposed to a repair. It has been scientifically proven that Vitamin E is an antioxidant; therefore can help defend the skin against attack from the free radicals which damage cells, damage that can bring about negative aging factors. And although Vitamin E might be far less sophisticated than the synthetic compounds used today - it is a proven and very much 'tried and tested' ingredient.
Alpha-Hydroxy Acids describes a category of acids of which citric, lactic and glycolic acids are the most widely used in anti aging products. Alpha-Hydroxy Acids have also proven to reduce signs of aging and picking up the overall look of the skin – improving texture – smoothing wrinkles and lines – reducing oily skin problems and unblocking pores.
While these ingredients have been proven to an acceptable extent, one essential ingredient for younger looking skin is collagen. The main reason why the skin shows visible signs of aging is because as we get older our collagen depletes. Therefore, by boosting the collagen, the skin becomes stronger and elasticity is improved; which equals younger looking skin. To date Retinol is among the most proven active ingredients currently being used. It is successful because Retinol increases cell replacement and so boosts collagen. Therefore anti aging products containing ingredients which promote the production of collagen – like Retinol, Keratin and synthetic Peptide proteins – are top choices for most.

Awesome Gift Ideas For the Teenage Dude
If you're struggling to find the perfect gift for the teenage boy on your Christmas list, here are some gift ideas to get you started.
Paintball
What is the natural instinct that drives teenage boys to want to hunt each other down? Whatever it is, you can feed this instinct safely by giving a gift of paintball guns and equipment. There are complete kits you can purchase at retail stores for reasonable prices.
Car Accessories
A gift of car accessories is a sure win if the teenage boy on your list is old enough to drive and has his own car. Even for the teenage boy who is not driving yet, this could be a great gift. Young guys dream of owning their first set of wheels. A gift of car wax and other cleaning supplies allow him to pamper his new toy. Seat covers or other decorative accessories let him give his car a personal touch.
Black Light Lamp
Black light lamps are back, and any teenage boy on your list is likely to want one. Get him one for his room and find out what glows in the dark. Many posters and other decorative accessories are available now that spring to life under a black light.
Consumer Electronics Gift Certificate
Gadgets and entertainment equipment are always a hit with teenage boys. A gift certificate to a consumer electronics store will give him an excuse to check out all of the latest TVs, stereo equipment, and computers. This is also the place where he can find his favorite music and video games. If you don't have a suitable store in your area, the young guy on your list can do all his shopping there online.
Team Jersey
The majority of teenage boys are into some sort of sport. Whether it is basketball, football, baseball, or NASCAR racing, he most likely has a favorite team or sports hero. Buy him a jersey from his team. Even better, find a jersey with the number of his favorite player. Authentic NFL Jerseys are especially hot right now.
Jeans
Most teenage boys wear jeans most of the time, which means they always need new ones. Just make sure you buy the style he likes. Some teenage boys like snug-fitting jeans, while others like their jeans baggy. Carpenter or painter jeans are also popular. Whatever the style, this is the "can't miss" gift, because there is no such thing as too many jeans.
Jewelry
Yes -- jewelry! Jewelry is becoming increasingly popular, in one form or another, among teenage guys. For rockers, tribal or beaded necklaces will be a hit. They might also like a stud or hoop earring. Preppy guys often like to wear fashionable rings or bracelets. If you aren't too sure about jewelry, try a watch. With such a wide variety of watch styles available, you'll be certain to find one to fit any teenage boy's taste.
Snowboard
Christmas is a great time for winter sports. This year might be the perfect opportunity for your teenager to get into snowboarding, and simple snowboards can be purchased at a relatively low price. The thrill of conquering a new challenge motivates many a teenage boy, and snowboarding will give him a way to release some energy and add excitement to the winter months.
Video Game Magazine Subscription
Generally speaking, teenage boys are suckers for video games. If the guy on your list has a game system, such as X-Box, PlayStation, or Nintendo, you can get him a subscription to the corresponding magazine. He'll get inside information and screen shots from upcoming games, ratings of current games, and, best of all -- demo discs. These demo discs let him play portions of games before they even come out, which helps him decide what games he really likes and wants to buy.
Portable Music
Boys love noise -- and their favorite kind is music. Whatever his music preferences, the teenage boy on your list is most likely to be passionate about his bands. With a portable player he can listen to his music anytime, anywhere, and you won't have to hear it.
Mission Accomplished
Head out to the mall armed with the above list and a little shopping savvy, and you have a way better chance of finding the ideal gift. Soon he will be saying, "DUDE, that is so cool!"

Custom Golf Balls – Do it Your Way
Nowadays, advances in printing technologies have made it a whole lot easier and a lot less pricey to have your own custom golf balls made. With high resolution printing available in an array of colors, it has become possible to print complicated logos upon virtually any of the brand name balls currently available in the marketplace. To procure your very own custom balls isn't difficult.
First and foremost, you will need a copy of your logo, initials or intended design in an 'acceptable' format. Golf balls are available with just about any design. Customisation is possible from the simplest of text to the most fanciful line art... even from a printed photo. You will need to find out what particular format your customising company requires.
Golf is the sport of the 'genteel' and within these realms usually there is little expense spared. The attention to details bestowed upon planning a golf tournament are usually enough to leave one without any doubt; class and style matter almost as much as skill! So it's little wonder that golf manufacturers thought up the idea of custom golf balls! They go well with the array of other designer clothing and equipment available. Whether they are intended for yourself, family, a golfing friend, the boss or to commemorate an extra special event, custom balls offer an expressive and fun way to enjoy the sport.
When out to purchase these custom balls, shop carefully. Regardless of any reasons you might think of, custom golf balls should not work out to cost that much more than regular balls. When making an order, deciding how many to buy can be one of the most vexing decisions. Not only will the number of balls you order affect the price, but how many colors and the complexity of the design will also play a part. Every additional color required usually incurs a screening charge, therefore, increasing the over-all cost.
Many golfers of international repute use custom balls to create identity. They are not adverse to favoring their own personalized designs. Many are entirely adamant that they will only play using their own 'custom made' balls. This may also be the case at even the most low key sporting engagement. Many corporations will also use custom golf balls to promote their upcoming events. Company logos and customized messages are regularly emblazoned upon tournament golf balls. Custom balls have proven to be a very good marketing tool for many companies. They are the perfect product, catering for this 'marketing niche'. Making custom golf balls is a particularly fun way to achieve some effective, yet wonderfully sublime marketing.

Sleeping Disorders
By Ron King
There are various medical and psychological reasons which can and do invariably bring about sleeping disorders. A sleeping disorder may begin rather unobtrusively with sleep patterns being disrupted only marginally at first. However, if the cause of the disruption is not approached and dealt with sooner rather than later it can become a far more serious problem. In some instances sleeping disorders can also disrupt the everyday workings of a person's physical, mental and emotional activity.
There are many physical conditions which can cause sleeping disorders, such as 'Hypopnea Syndrome' - a condition where the person's respiratory rate becomes abnormally shallow while they are sleeping. Another example is 'Obstructive Sleep Apnea' - which is most commonly due to some kind of obstruction in the airway.
To discover if there are any bio-physiological changes occurring during sleep a Poly-Somno-Graphy (PSG), also referred to as a 'sleep study', might be carried out. A PSG records various functions while the person is sleeping: such as brain and muscle activity, rapid eye movement (which indicates dramatic dreams - night terrors), heart rhythm (ECG) and skeletal-muscle activity (EMG). If more complex data is needed the PSG will either be supplemented or replaced by an Actigraphy. These tests can diagnose which sleeping problem is causing the situation, as well as rule out most of the more common sleeping orders. Insomnia is usually the diagnosis if there is a chronic disruption in sleep patterns occurs and no other cause can be found.
Waking up un-rested and non-responsive can indicate a sleeping disorder and insomnia (defined as the inability to obtain an adequate, good night's sleep, either because of difficulties falling asleep, staying asleep, or both) is indicated. Other commonly diagnosed sleeping disorders include Periodic Limb Movement Disorder (PLMD) and Restless Legs Syndrome (RLS). With PLMD a person will suddenly and involuntarily jerk their arms or legs while sleeping. RLS brings on a slightly different sensation: with RLS the individual feels the irresistible need to move/shake their legs. Often these disorders will be suffered concurrently.
During 2006, the United States Department of Health carried out a study upon one thousand American teens aged 13 to 16 years. Incredibly 11% of them were diagnosed as suffering from Insomnia. In 2007 another study by them revealed that women are almost one and a half times more likely to suffer insomnia and that around 64 million Americans are dealing with this condition every year. That figure alone is enough to cause anyone sleepless nights!

Bipolar Disorder Children
i've been quiet. i know. there are two reasons. the first is that publication project. i really bit off more than i can chew. i decided to make not one, but three books. with content. and in materials out of my comfort zone. my husband thinks i'm crazy. and that's basically what i've been working on. so i've had no pictures to share.
i will tell you a little bit. the book is authored by tammy kushnir. the tentative title is "repurposed journals." we were to make a journal (not necessarily three!) using upcycled materials. and complete the journal pages inside. i made one book out of cabinet doors (it's really large!), one out of a bit of a drop cloth, and the last out of upcycled wool. i have about half the journaling done. the drop cloth book is filled it with spray painted stencils. i found out that i really only need to do about 2 spreads of journaling per book, so that's great. i should be done soon.
but the second problem is that my depression has returned. i've spoken about having bipolar disorder before. but i've pretty much been symptom free for a while. just the past two weeks i've been feeling depressed again. it affects my motivation and my ability to concentrate on my artwork. everything feels like an effort. so it's been hard for me to work and hard for me to blog. i'm just hoping this is a short lived break through set of symptoms.
i managed to paint some book board, like in the picture above, and spray paint them to offer in the shop. it will probably be a little while though. i have to finish journaling, bind them all, take pictures, etc. i'll let you know when they're ready.
• Tonei Glavinic, writing for Student Pulse, gives us the piece Research Shows Lack of Support for Transgender and Gender-Nonconforming Youth in U.S. School Systems:
Transgender children are some of the most vulnerable students in America's schools. Nobody knows how many there are, and very few educators know what to do with them. Despite extensive advocacy efforts, trans youth are subjected to bullying and harassment in the classroom; diagnosed with nonexistent learning disabilities and psychological problems; and generally misunderstood by their doctors, teachers, and classmates. As a result, these students get lower grades than their classmates and are less likely to pursue higher education. The lack of a basic understanding of trans youth puts them at an extremely high risk for failure and unsatisfactory performance in schools.(Authors note: "Transgender" and "trans" are used interchangeably to refer to transgender, transsexual and gender-nonconforming individuals. The term 'transgender' generally describes people whose physical sex characteristics do not match their psychological gender identity.)
I spoke with Kim Pearson, the executive director of the national advocacy organization TransYouth Family Allies, to learn more about the struggles faced by transgender and gender-variant children in schools2. The first thing she mentioned was transgender children being diagnosed with nonexistent conditions: in her experience, trans students who have not come out to themselves or those around them are often labeled as "dull or difficult," and diagnosed with a number of learning disabilities because of their poor performance in school (81). In other words, students get diagnosed simply because they are underachieving - the school treats the symptoms of the problem rather than the cause. While this can happen to other groups of students, transgender youth are particularly vulnerable because so few people can recognize the cause of their problems.
Misdiagnosis of transgender youth also occurs in the psychological field. While there is little published research in this area (Pearson's organization is working on compiling data, but suffers from insufficient resources), a young transgender man I spoke to offered numerous instances of his peers being diagnosed and treated for a series of conditions: attention deficit disorder, phobias, sexual abuse, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and autism-spectrum disorders. He also echoed the sentiment that doctors "diagnose symptoms rather than the real issue," and noted that it can take years for medical professionals to figure out the actual cause - if they ever do (Anonymous). Arlene Lev, a licensed clinical social worker with twenty-five years of experience working with LGBT people, supports these claims: she reports that "clinical experience yields frightening narratives of clients who have been misdiagnosed, mistreated, and misguided by uninformed clinicians (19)." If teachers and medical professionals had a better understanding of trans youth and were equipped with the tools necessary to identify them, these types of misdiagnoses would be much less common...
Pretty decent piece, I'd say.
• GetReliegion.org's Transgender + Catholic = story:
You don't see 2,000-word stories in newspapers every day, so when you do, the editors probably deem it an important story. The Des Moines Register gave several inches to a reporter to explain how Susan McIntyre, a transgender social worker, was fired from her job as a housekeeper at the St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Student Center at Drake University.
Before she was fired, McIntyre was using parish offices to provide counseling for transgendered clients. The Register reports that a priest discovered a piece of paper in the copy machine with McIntyre's authorization of hormone therapy for someone about to undergo a sex change. The letterhead included the center's name and address.
If you took the words "transgender" and "Catholic" out of the story, you probably wouldn't have anything to write about. I don't think it's that controversial to get fired for misrepresenting your employer. But put those words back in and you have a lightning-rod debate over doctrine versus acceptance. I have some follow-up questions, though, that I think would improve the story...
Yup. Pretty astute observation, I'd say.
• Our Wiener Story Of The Day: The Daily Breeze's Woman charged in $110,000 theft from Torrance Little League:
A former Torrance Little League treasurer and two-time Volunteer of the Year has been charged with stealing more than $110,000 from the organization.Barbara Lynn Davidson, 44, of Torrance was arraigned on a charge of felony grand theft Dec. 29 in Torrance Superior Court.
...Davidson served seven years as treasurer of the group before resigning from the board in September, saying she had "abused her role" in the position, said President Steve Gottlieb.
...In her position, Davidson had access to the league's bank accounts and proceeds from its snack shack, the main fundraising tool for most Little Leagues.
Snack shacks sell drinks, hamburgers and hot dogs, candy and the locally famous taco boats.
"One particular year it showed a profit of $3,500, which at that point to me - it was my first year on the board - seemed awfully low based on the (number of) patrons we had at the window," Gottlieb said. "It just did not seem accurate, if you will." ...
Ah. An apparent wiener accused of stealing Little League weenie money! Nice!

Long Term Insurance – Get it While You Can
By Ron King
First off why would someone need long term insurance? Because tens of thousands of people every year find themselves in need of long term care and it doesn't come cheap! We live in times when nothing is sure and in time of crisis, like right now, being covered has never been more essential.
Long-term insurance (often called long term health insurance) is somewhat different from the usual, run of the mill health and medical insurance. But what makes it so different and, therefore, preferable is that it covers almost everything that might happen to you. Injury and disease can strike without warning and when it does, people often find themselves in need of respite, intermediate or long term care. That's where this type of insurance comes in.
Officially there's no age barrier for long-term insurance. Even so, generally speaking, the insurance companies do tend to save their more favorable policies and premiums for the 'younger generation'. The reason for this is because they are more likely to stay actively employed and thus able to make the installments, plus they are not considered to be such a 'high risk' population, medically speaking. If a person doesn't consider long term insurance while still young, they may find themselves being refused if they leave it too long. All too often the time when you need it most will be the FIRST time you realize how important it is.
Of course, the reasons why people choose to have this insurance vary. The top reason is probably that they don't want to be a burden to their family -- whether that be a spouse, parent or child. Few could be content knowing they are a huge financial burden to their loved ones. Another reason to sign up is that they don't want to leave their home should they be unfortunate enough to suffer from a long term illness or need to convalesce after receiving an injury or undergoing an operation.
As the market changes, new types of long term polices have appeared. For example, the Taxqualified (TQ) insurance is definitely a preferred policy. This type of policy covers the policy holder should they find themselves unable to eat, drink, bathe (and all other vital human needs) on his or her own, as well as any specialized medical treatment they may need.
Another type of long term insurance is Non-tax qualified (NTQ), a forerunner of the TQ insurance and considered the more "traditional" type of policy. According to the criteria of NTQ insurance, the doctor of the patient (or a doctor who works for the insurance company) can claim that the patient is in need of special medical care or treatment in which case, the insurance policy will pay for that treatment.
If you are a person who thinks ahead and would like to be sure that there will always be someone to take care of you, it might be a good idea to check out the coverage offered by the various insurance companies around. Don't let the future catch you unaware.
